While Almuñécar is home to many excellent restaurants, this is a small selection. The places we would personally send our guests for memorable dining and authentic experiences.
Seafront Restaurants
There is something special about eating with the sound of the waves in the background. Many of our favourite spots are right by the sea and some are even within walking distance from Villa Bugambilla.
Don Olivo
Under its new owner Antonia, Don Olivo offers a beautiful blend of French and Spanish cuisine. The covered outdoor terrace makes it comfortable year-round, and it’s almost always fully booked, so making a reservation is essential.
If you wish to sit inside, a nice cozy space welcomes you and you will feel right at home. Beautifully located near Villa Bugambilla and easy to reach on foot along the boulevard.

Balcón de Cotobro
Within walking distance of the villa, this is one of our personal favourites. The French-inspired cuisine is refined without being complicated, and our favourite dish is the Mexican salad. The terrace sits directly by the sea and offers spectacular sunsets. In Summer, it’s perfect for a romantic dinner, while during the day it’s also a lovely lunch spot after time spent on Cotobro beach. We also like to get a nice beer or wine after work is done, to enjoy the view.

Munay Beach
Located directly on the sand, Munay Beach has a slightly Mexican-inspired menu and a relaxed Ibiza-style interior. It’s ideal for an easy evening dinner with the sound of the sea in the background.
The last time we had lunch there in January, a group of dolphins swam past along the coastline. That was one of those unexpected moments that makes you happy for the rest of the day!

La Bonita Beach
Located in the Velilla/Taramay area, a little outside the centre of Almuñécar but absolutely worth the visit. The setting is beautiful, especially at sunset. The Ibiza-style decor gives it a relaxed elegance. The menu is n’t extensive, but everything on it is consistently delicious. It’s also a great place for a sunny winter lunch. Reservations are highly recommended as it continues to grow in popularity.

Ayolanda Almuñécar
Located near the lively Paseo del Altillo, just steps from the sea and on the beach, this restaurant offers a unique atmosphere close to Almuñécar’s nightlife. It’s a fun place to begin your evening and if you feel like it, you can easily continue the night in one of the nearby clubs afterwards. Ayolanda has a lot of fish dishes. Look them up on the socials, and you will get hungry right away.

Not directly on the seafront, but absolutely worth discovering.
Francisco II
A true favourite of ours. The menu is available in several languages and the service is excellent. Our personal favourite is the Steak Paris, but honestly, everything here feels like a celebration. The bread with aioli served at the start is absolutely delicious.
Inside the restaurant, the atmosphere is warm and cosy, walls covered with photos and accessoires and the traditional Spanish hams hanging above the bar. Even the small outdoor terrace, tucked into a corner, has a charming and relaxed feel. We’ve heard that their lunch (menú del día) is excellent, something we’re still looking forward to trying ourselves.

Los Geraneos
One of the most well-known restaurants in Almuñécar and for a good reason. Several small, cosy dining rooms, friendly service, and consistently excellent food.
We often come here with a group of friends, and it has never disappointed. We don’t have any pictures of those nights, just wonderful memories. Reservations are highly recommended

Mesón Los Arcos
A great choice if you’re looking for something informal and genuinely local. With every drink, you can choose a tapa from the menu, which makes it both fun and very affordable, as you only pay for the drinks. It’s usually busy, and you can sit either inside or outside. The small dishes are tasty and filling. It’s not high-end dining, but if you’re on a smaller budget and want to enjoy good food in a lively setting among locals, this is exactly the right place.
Located opposite the new Mercado and just around the corner from the Aquarium, it’s also a perfect stop after visiting these attractions. Ideal for a relaxed drink and a small bite before heading back.

Mesón Gala
Recently moved to a new location closer to the seafront, the new setting feels noticeably more elegant and refined. The food is excellent. We are especially fond of the beef tartare, which is prepared at your table and adjusted to your taste with different ingredients. We have honestly never had it quite this good anywhere else.
Located just a few steps outside the centre, it’s easy to reach, and in the off-season you can often park almost directly in front. Which makes this an excellent location for us.
